Despite a very heavy downpour in several areas around Preston on Thursday morning, averaging almost 2 inches of rain in most locales, streams have already started to recover. For some stretches like the Root River below Lanesboro, or the North Branch of the Root recovery will be slow to come. For other stretches like the Root River here in Preston, the river has already begun to clear and recede.
For the most part the smaller streams have already recovered and are returning to normal. For example, Camp Creek was probably unfishable yesterday, but is highly fishable right now. I had the chance to fish Garvin Brook near Winona last night and it was gin clear.
So, your only concerns for planning your fishing trip to the Preston area are twofold:
A plan to beat the heat by finding shade and good hydration.
The patience to be observant and aware in recognizing what the trout are eating.
Have fun and Tight Lines.
