Water conditions in and around Preston continue to be best described as variable. As of today, all three main branches of the Root River remain high and somewhat stained. The South Fork of the Root being the most fishable, followed by the South Branch here in Preston. The North Branch and the Main Branch of the Root from Lanesboro and below remain very high and stained.
Even the smaller streams are variable with some like Trout Run or Garvin Brook recovering completely, while other streams like Camp Creek or Duschee are just now getting into fishable shape.
If you can find fishable water, there have been some good Sulphur hatches reported and there are still many Caddis on the water. Don’t forget terrestrials, as ants and crickets can be a good bet. When fishing stained waters, leech patterns and streamers will always get some good fish.
