The Preston area has recovered quite nicely from last weekend’s heavy rains. Virtually every one of the local streams has recovered nicely and all are now running at mid-summer natural flows. The Root river throughout town is clear and running nicely. However, below Lanesboro, the Root is high and discolored, as is the North Branch of the Root. All of the small local streams are running clear. Fishing is classical “dog days of Summer” fishing with very few hatches. Rising fish are a rarity and therefor either attractor patterns or terrestrials are your best bet. Nymphing is a good bet, but you will have to get your nymph down to the cooler water columns. Switch to a small Adams later in the evening and you should get a few fish to Rise.
