With temperatures in the mid-fifties the snow is almost gone in this third week of February. Stream flows are up with snowmelt; the South Branch of the Root River at Carimona is flowing at about 250 cfs while downstream at Lanesboro, flows are over 700 cfs. Stream temperatures at Preston are 45° and cloudy, but the fish were still biting. Browns and rainbows hit well in mid-day on Saturday on the South Branch at Preston. Nymphs and near-bottom lures were most productive during mid-day.
A nice hatch of small black stoneflies made a showing on the Middle Branch of the Root River over the weekend and a few fly fishers were out on Trout Run, Camp Creek and the South Branch of the Root River at Preston.
