July 19, 2019:
Welcome Back to the NTC’s The Voice of the Driftless. For the second time in a month we need to revise our Thursday Fishing report to alert anglers of severe flooding.
ALERT: FLASH FLOODING
Yesterday’s glowing fishing report is cancelled for are area that reaches from a line from Rochester to Winona, all the way to Madison WI. In SE Minnesota the WARNING includes Eastern Olmsted, all of Winona, the Northern two thirds of Fillmore Count and most of Houston Counties.
Streaming thunderstorms dropped 3” to 6” of rain overnight in a corridor along I90 and stream levels will continue to rise through the day. Trout fishing in the inter area covered by last night’s storms will not recover for five to seven days.
Many of the stream in the surrounding areas and very high and muddy and with more rain predicted for Saturday conditions will likely get worse. However, the section of the South Branch of the Root River is looking very nice for fishing with a transparency reading if right around 15inches. So come fish in Preston today! The National Trout Center will have the AC and cold water if you need to escape the heat!
