Fishing the South Branch of the Root River in Preston looks like it could be successful today as the transparency level is now about 58 centimeters. Over at Camp Creek the transparency level is 38 centimeters, or, a little murky. Thirty-eight centimeters is fairly good for fishing as you generally want it to be 35 cm or more. Up the road a little bit in Chatfield at Mill Creek the transparency level is fairly poor at about 18 cm. A reading this low means it is pretty muddy and you will want to mainly fish with brighter colors.
The fishing today around the area should be fairly good considering the transparency levels, discharge (Blue line shown on hydrograph), and the precipitation (Green bars) at the South Branch Root River at Carimona. The rest of the weekend may be a different story though as there is a chance for rain the next two days which could cloud the water once again. So get out there today if you can, and good luck!
